Sporting glowing eyes and a body made from twisted humanoid branches, the Beast is the main antagonist of the series Over the Garden Wall (spoilers to follow). He roams the Unknown and carries the Dark Lantern, which burns with oil from Edelwood trees that form when the Beast captures the souls of children led astray. He deceives the Woodsman into believing that his departed daughter's soul would be kept alive inside the lantern as long as the flame stayed lit. Thus, the Woodsman spends his life chopping trees & extracting the oil in a desperate attempt to fuel the flame. Unbeknownst to the Woodsman, it's the Beast's soul inside the lantern - not his daughter’s. Eventually, the Woodsman faces his fear & blows the light out, freeing himself of his burden & the Beast.

The title comes from a song sung by the Beast to lure lost travelers into giving up hope and turning into Edelwood trees to fuel his lantern. The Beast alludes to many different entities - the Wendigo, Will-o'-the-Wisps, Stingy Jack, & more. I include him in this collection as a gentle call to extinguish the flame of that burden...let go of that Beast you've been carrying inside you. Sometimes we spend our lives adding fuel to a fire that never gives us any warmth.

Before play, put the black slime (representing darkness) in the bottom of the container, then add the orange slime (the lantern’s light) on top. Poke it down into the base a bit, put the lid on, and let it sit for a day to create an "avalanche" effect that resembles twisting Edelwood branches. Top it off with your lantern charm and waterproof LED light to make your lantern glow. Pull out the tab to turn the light on, and re-insert the tab to turn it off. Don’t leave it submerged in the slime after you are done playing! You should be able to get several uses out of these lights, but I can't guarantee how long they'll last.
