After endless obstacles, Wirt loses hope that he & Greg will ever find their way home, and... he gives up. As fog rolls in & the boys slumber on the forest floor, Greg is transported via dream to a magical land in the sky resembling heaven, where he is welcomed by the residents. However, he must first battle the North Wind.

After a comically cartoonish fight, Greg succeeds. The Queen of the Clouds rewards him with a single wish & an opportunity to stay forever in paradise - he can finally be a hero. Meanwhile, in Wirt's slumber, falling snow & edelwood branches have begun to encase his body, representing his loss of hope & surrender to despair as the Beast begins to consume him.

Greg, untempted by power & glory, simply wishes for Wirt & himself to go home, but the Queen of the Clouds refuses. Refusing to abandon his brother, Greg returns to him & decides to bargain with the Beast for Wirt’s life...even if it means sacrificing himself.

Here, the series takes a darker turn. Greg is finally given the chance to be the hero and promised paradise but asked to make the choice to leave his brother behind.

Cloud City offers Greg everything he could ever want: belonging, admiration, adventure… but of course, Greg believes nothing, no matter how wonderful, is worth abandoning his loved ones.

There are hints that Cloud City is merely an illusion conjured by the Beast. For instance, the Oneroi the song mentions are creatures from Greek mythology who are dreams personified - sent through either a gate of horns (indicating a true prophetic dream) or ivory (dream of lies). Yeah...this ivory-gated world isn't all it's cracked up to be.
