In the Over the Garden Wall episode “Schooltown Follies," a group of animal students are having a bland, boring lunch of mashed potatoes at Ms. Langtree's schoolhouse. Greg, always the quirky kid, decides to add molasses to his meal to make it more interesting, and starts singing a song that will be permanently embedded into the brain of every person who watches this show:

"Potatoes & molasses
If you want some, oh, just ask us
They're warm & soft like puppies in socks
Filled with cream & candy rocks
If your stomach is grumblin' and your mouth starts a-mumblin'
There is only one thing to keep your brain from crumblin'"

The animals soon follow suit and start playing their instruments along with the song until they are busted by Mr. Langtree. While this lighthearted song is meant to reflect Greg's optimistic personality, always ready to add a bit of excitement into every situation, we hear a chilling reprise of the song IN LATIN later on in the show during a somber scene where Wirt and Beatrice find a weakened Greg entangled in edelwood tree roots, turning into a lost soul tree. The Beast approaches them and tells Wirt that Greg is too weak to go home and is doomed to live in his forest, unless Wirt agrees to be the lantern-bearer. Wirt quickly decides this is ridiculous, then uses the Woodsman's axe to chop Greg out of the growing tree and run away.

While ultimately a fun and silly song, it seemed the perfect symbol for Greg's wonderful weirdness and infectious hope -- the same hope that ultimately fueled his brother Wirt to take a risk and save Greg from the beast. Just like potatoes and molasses, we don't know if something strange will work until we take a chance on it.

You'll receive 8 oz of foamy-plump fleece "potatoes" with 1 oz of jelly "molasses", a small dish and spoon, and either a potato charm or silica “candy rocks” that you can sprinkle over the top.
